Week 5 - Your LU Program

One of my goals for you this semester is that you become familiar with the Lindenwood School of Education and what you can expect over the next 4 years of your life. In order to do this, you need to be very familiar with the Lindenwood website, and in particular, the School of Education section of the website. The following link should take you to the School of Education section of the website. http://www.lindenwood.edu/academics/education/ Please browse the site and find something new that you either didn't know before or that you didn't know was on the website. You only have to post one reply this week. It is not necessary that you reply to a classmate. HOWEVER, you must find something on the website that is different than what the previous posts have indicated. Here are a few things to remember while you are looking for information: 1. It must be related to either Education or your Secondary Field of Study. 2. It can be a form you found on the Guide to Undergraduate Teacher Education, but you must specify what the form is about and when you would use it. 3. It can be something about Student Teaching, but be specific about what you learned. 4. It can be something about Foliotek, but be specific about what you learned. 5. It can be something about CBASE or Praxis, but be specific about what you learned. 6. You will not submit information about a form that another student has already posted.
You may also find something that will help you with your LU program on PCCommon in the School of Education Folder. You can either use something found on PCCommon or on the LU website for your blog comment.
The education Advisor Contact Sheet can be found in the School of Education Folder on PCCommon. It is a word document that is found on the first screen after selecting the School of Education Folder. I can't place a direct link from the blog because it is a word document so you will to navigate yourself there.
See you guys next week!

  1. When I read about student teaching this spring I found out important things that are great to know. The first step in becoming a student teacher is to first attend a manditory meeting, that is held in the Young Hall Attitorium. If you do not attend the manditory meeting you will not be able to student teach. There are also two classes that have to be taken in order to student teach, those are edu41000 and edu59900.

  2. Perusing the website, I stumbled on the Student Counseling and resource center. I didn't know we had on-campus counselors to deal with problems we may face. I thought that it was the program to become a counselor in schools, but evidently it is to help us with our problems. Now I know where to go if I ever decide to have drug or alcohol problems.

  3. I did not know that it was possible too access the praxis website from the lindenwood site. The site gives you everything needed for before, after, and during the test. The few things that i find halpfull are being able to see the future test dates but, more importanly it provides a few different ways to prepare and study for the praxis.

  6. when browsing through the website I found that in the school of ed there is a "bingo sheet" for the MA program in administration which is what I want to eventually get after teaching for a few years. It is definetly helpful to know exactly what I need to take to plan accordingly. There are also sheets for the PHD in Ed and EdS or educational specialist sheets.

  7. I was able to look up different advisors under advisor contacts to get questions answered about different fields of education before making any major decisions. These advisors are so much help to those of us who are not sure what to expect in certain fields. They can help us figure out if the certain feild is right for us. I was very excited to be able to find someone I know I can trust to give me advice for many of my questions I have been stressing out about.

I was unaware that there was a Code of Ethics form for students to see on the Lindenwood website. It is very important that all students follow the Code of Ethics to represent Lindenwood University in a professional manner. However, one rule (number 4, section C) caught my attention. It states: The student shall send only professional messages via email. I understand why that is stated, but does anyone honestly expect the students to obey it?

It tells me how many credits it is to get a masters. it is 36 credits for students who want their MA which is a masters that will allow a teach to become a principle.

  12. I was reading the process to become a certified teacher in the state of Missouri and I saw that if for some reason your portfolio is not approved (passing the PRAXIS is a required artifact for your portfolio) than you receive and I (incomplete). You have one semester to complete your portfolio or the I becomes an F and you have to enroll in student teaching again.

  13. I haven't declared my major yet so I am undecided and my advisor isn't in the education department so I didn't really know anything about this section of the website. When I was looking around I found the sheet for physical education telling you all the coursework needed for graduation and it was the first time i've seen it.

WebCT was a very helpful program I found on Lindenwood's website. It allows me to view and print out notes instead of writting everything down in class. It also allows me to view material that I could have missed from being absent from class.

  18. While looking throught the school of education section of the lindenwood website, i found the form one must fill out in order to get their degree. As well as having the application, they have several deadlines for when the form should be turned in. All the deadlines are about 6-7 months before the graduation ceremony takes place, so if you want to get your degree when you graduate, make sure you apply for it in advance!

I learned that in the History folder on pccommon there is information about tutor reservations, trivia nights, history bowl dates, and meetings for discussions based on a particular part in history. A discussion I found interesting was about black activism.

  20. When i was looking through the website I found that to obtain a minor in Biology or Math or whatever you only need like 36 more credits. I figured it would be much much more. My major is K-12 PE and Health and it wouldn't really take me that much more to get a minor in something. It also tells you what classes I need to take. That made me happy when I saw that!

  21. I already knew a little bit about the education part of the Lindenwood website I was already pretty familiar with Lindenwood w because I am trying to be prepared. I found in the Education folder on PCCOMMON templates for lesson plans. I think this will be very beneficial for not only myself but for everyone else too. I’ve never done a lesson plan so I will definitely use it to get me started. There are also templates for the rationales and reflections of the standards Education majors have to master on the website. This has been very helpful to me in the past, so I hope it will help other people out.

  22. As I was looking over PCcommon I came across the major of recreation and leadership. I was never familiar with this major before and I think I think being a art education person it would be helpful to work with people in this feild.

  23. I never knew about the counseling part, that they too had to go through DESE and get checked by fingerprints at the school. Thats interesting to me because I thought only teachers used DESE.

  24. I never really knew about the councelling part and that they could do fingerprinting here at LU. I think that having councelling here at Lindenwood is a great idea that helps out the students when they are having any problems.
