I hope you guys enjoyed your week off of class. I had a nice time at the conference at Jefferson City. We learned ways to help students be successful on the Praxis test (the certification test you will all take before you are allowed to student teach.)
You're homework for this week is just as it states on your syllabus. Please read Chapter 2 in your textbook and write 3 things new that you learned through the reading. Write at least 3 sentences for each response, making a total of at least 9 sentences.
You will also continue blogging this week. I hope you are able to watch youtubes from the computer you are using, because it is crucial that you watch the videos in order to respond to the blog.
Watch the Technology youtubes on the side. Reflect upon what you saw. What are your thoughts about technology in the classroom? How could the Amazon Kindle change typical textbooks in the future? Please share an example of how a teacher effectively or ineffectively utilized technology in the classroom.

With kids growing up today, technology will always be a part of their life. They see technology as something that is hands on and fun! This is exactly what we want to encorperate in the classroom. This will keep the children focused on the lesson and sometimes learning without really knowing it. The Amazon Kindel may be helful in the future and may make it cheaper for the kids to use text books and also they will not be limited to what they read the have a variety of options. Using a smartboard for instance is a great way to just effectively use technology in the classroom. Just touching the screen could really allow the kids to become involved and want to get involved .

ReplyDeleteAlthough I think kids today are way to wraped up in things like cell phones,video games and computers, technology in the class room will only open the doors in a positive way for education. We are intering a world were technology is on the fast road and its importaint for the school systems to keep up with this fast tack world. Children of today's jobs will most likely use and focus on technology so why not start in the class room.
ReplyDeleteHaving a technologically savy classroom is not a thing of the future anymore, but happening all around us. Many students today in elementary and middle schools don't remember a time before cell phones or the internet. How can we ask them to try and learn in a classroom with out them? Its like asking one of us to learn with out taking notes on paper or not to read a chapter in a paperback book. It just seems silly. Technology in the classroom is not an option anymore but a necessity. I feel that the use of SMART boards and the Kindle book system will eventually make its way into all classes over the world, and if it makes the learning more benificial why not!! Personally I feel that the job of a pre service teacher is to activly seek out ways to INCLUDE technology in the classroom even if it is not required. If that is the way in which it is most effective to learn then I would expect myself and my collegues to incorporate it at all times.
ReplyDeleteI feel that have more technology in the classroom will help students to learn and will help the teacher out. Technology can also be a fun way to learn new things.. the students can have more hands on practice with the new things they are learning by playing games that involve the subject. Technology is found in many class rooms today. The smart board is a need in almost every middle school and high schools classroom. the smart board gives the teacher a better way to show students what they are learning. I feel that technology is a great things for classrooms today and encourage schools and teachers to use it more often
ReplyDeleteI agree with learn about the children getting a better understanding about what they are learning if they use technology. It will help them in more ways than one. it can be a fun way to learn without the students knowing they are learning because they are having fun.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of technolgy in the classroom and the smartboard is an awesome tool. Using venues such as Facebook groups, Twitter,or You Tube can keep the kids interested. Now the kindle will possibly help lower book prices but here a point to consider, what if a student can not afford a Kindle? What do they do then? I have seen technolgy used in classroom as a means of an icebreaker or a way to send in assignments.

ReplyDeleteI think using technology in a classroom setting is a great way to keep students more involved and make sure they are enjoying class. Just like with parents adapting to the new ways their children live and mature now I feel like teachers and schools must adapt also. It is no longer paper and pencils-its labtops and phones. Technology can do much much more and keep students more excited and can help students enjoy learning more.

ReplyDeletei really think that the kindel could be the future of books in schools. i believe that it will start in universities and wealthier private high schools but once the price lowers i think it will take flight. think about how esy and cost efficient it would be. at first it would seem like alot but once you bought so many books on the kindel it would pay for itself. also you would always have those books for reference later during school. im excited to see teachers and students begin to use technology to learn in new ways.
ReplyDeletei agree with Mariah about using the different internet sites and what not for homework. i mean think about how many hours in a day students are on the computer for facebook and myspace, if we could find a way to incorporate learning through those sites it would change the way some kids veiw school
ReplyDeleteI think that using technology in the classroom is a great idea to get more of the students to do their work. They would probably start seeing homework in a different way and actually injoy it.

ReplyDeleteI think that all the new technologies being used in school is a good thing because it keeps children interested and it is something that they will probably use a lot in their futures. I think that getting work off of a computer or some new type of technology is much more fun than just using an old textbook

ReplyDeleteTechnology in the classroom has greatly improved and changed learning methods in classrooms. Students can now visually see the problems while answering them. However i dont believe there is a replacement for the communication between student and teacher.
ReplyDeleteI think the Amazon kindle could make books more affordable for students. If the device becomes affordable, it would be cheaper to download books rather then purchasing them.
the teacher in the video for smart board used the device to excite her kids about learning. She was able to apply most of her studies to something on smart board.
I think technology in the classroom is a good thing. For the most part all the students will have technology in their life throughout their whole lives. So the more chances they have to become familiar and comfortable with technology the better. I wasn't able to view the video about the kindle but if it would make textbooks cheaper I'm all for it.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the majority of my classmates saying that anything that would make the class fun or more enjoyable for the students would be a plus. Technology I think would do both those things.

ReplyDeleteWhen my teacher used youtube in the classroom I think that it got all the student attention when the teacher put the on.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is great for the classroom. By using youtube, facebook, twitter, and the smartboard, teachers can create fun interactive lessons and assignments that incorperate a lot of the technology that youger generations already have access to. The sky is the limit. The kindle will eventually be great for the classroom as well. Instead of checking out multiple books or getting loads of hand outs, a kindle will allow teachers to give those books and files to thier students electronically which will help reduce weight and help keep things organized. Until they allow color photos though, some subjects are going to be missing out. And although technology is grand, it also has it's downside. Many students know how to use technology as good as if not better than their teachers. I could easily see a student getting mad and trying to use software or material to get the teacher or other studetns in trouble. And technology isn't always the surest of things, a simple crash could possibly ruin weeks of lesson plans if not back up properly. All in all, technology can and will be used for the greater good in the future and there is always new and exciting things waiting around every corner.
ReplyDeleteWatching these videos really made me think about technology in the classroom in a whole new way. I've never put much thought into the importance of engaging students with technology and really using it to its' full potential. Especially in the smartboard winner video, you could really tell that the children didn't just see the smartboard as a novelty, but as a valuable learning tool. I'm so impressed that these kids are able to crop pictures, construct bar graphs and save files; I think it's even opening doors for higher learning skills. I really feel the pressure now to begin to think of ways I can use technology in my classroom, but it's also exciting to think of ways to involve students in lessons that I never had a chance to experience.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you a bit Logan F. Although technology would help students complete homework faster and easier than ever, I don't think it would increase their want to actually do it. What we are doing right now is pretty fun and exciting and i'm still procrastinating till the last day to do it. Maybe it would boost homework moral a little, but I don't think it would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteA few people have mentioned the Kindle, and I think it's a really cool product, but it does have it's shortcomings. I don't know if they have a model that has a backlight, but that would be pretty important if you wanted to read anywhere but in direct sunlight. Also, I'm a very sensory person and if I'm trying to remember information, I like to hilight and also it's important for me to be able to visualize the physical page. Regardless, I would love to have a kindle; it would definitely make reading more convenient!
ReplyDeleteI think that technology in the classroom is really awesome because it helps the children to engage and really demonstrate, especially on the smart board. I feel like it would give the children a more visual way to learn, as well as giving them the confidence to go in front the class and write on the board. It is a really neat way to get kids involved and to keep them all interested. I think that children get excited about technology and that the smartboard would really help them to have a wonderful experience in school. The smartboard can be used for many different activities and it allows the children to be creative. The Amazon Kindle is a really cool new piece of technology. I think that it will be very beneficial to teachers, as well as students, in the future. It holds all the books in one device, and can also listen to the books. Children will be very interested in the Kindle because reading can be boring sometimes, so a new approach to reading could help get them interested. I like how youtube is utilized in this class, but in high school we actually had a teacher over the tv. It was called an itv class and it was really neat, but I think that the student and the teacher need to connect and really get to know each other, so maybe not being in the classroom isn't as beneficial.

I think that everyone has a valid point and that we all can agree that technology is improving our classrooms and I am excited to teach my students using these new forms of technology!
ReplyDeleteTechnology in the classroom is one of the best ways to get students involed inside and outisde the classroom. I remember throughout middle school where my spanish teacher assigned interactive activities for us online. They weren't graded but they gave me a good grasp on the concepts. Smartboards are also a great way to interact with technology. The biggest problem however is that many teachers aren't trained in the new technology and sometimes this can make the class uneasy when the teacher struggles to set up the activities. Also, I believe the Kindle idea is great. I spend way to much money on books and I feel like this would be a good way for us all to stay up to date in technological adavancement.

ReplyDeleteI also agree that teachers should adapt to changing society just like parents have too. I didn't even consider the comparison before but teachers that can update their classrooms with technology can help keep their children from falling asleeo, or even falling behind because it gets them out of the desk sometimes and gets them involved.
Technology in the classroom can be a very effective tool. It brings a new wave of information much different than what traditional methods and teachers themselves can. Interactive games can be useful, however some schools might not be as advanced to know how to run sofrware like that. Bringing the students out of their seats and into a lab where they can reasearch and play learning math games online to me I would as a teacher take full advantage of. One of the problems with technology is the ability to find and buy new software. Some schools are not funded and parents cannot contribute. However, technology has changed my life and I know it will just be more advanced in the future.

ReplyDeleteonline classes are never really that much fun and not too many people get the urge to do the homework and may slack off a bit more than you would in a regular classroom. The urge to do the homework because you don't have to see the teachers face when you turn it in late makes you wanna do it less.
I believe that technology is very resourceful and can help students learn in a "different" way. Each child learns in a different way, so technology might be a way that really help children's learning. The kindle is a new form of technology that has the ability to to be very useful. That is, as long as students are still learning how to use other forms of learning as well. I believe it is vital for a student to be able to use a book as well. So in a way the students of today are acutally having to learn more; how to utilize technology as well as know how to use things used before technology was common.
ReplyDeleteOne teacher that I had in middle school was very effective in utulizing technology. This is because he knew that not all students were able to grasp the math work so he found games online that tied into our math work. This made everyone understand it in an easier way.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the fact that technology does not necesarily make a person want to do their homework. Althought the new technology may spark their interest, I think that if a person does not have the drive to finish something, they probably wont do it.
